Work Package 2
WP Leader: K.U.LEUVEN
The objective of WP2 is to survey and categorise the different ICT-approaches to smart grids management and their integration in the main electricity grid. Electrical and information security aspects will be explored as well as, in general, the dependability of the smart grids on the ICT infrastructure.
Task 2.1: Prioritise requirements – Assess ICT offer/needs.
Task 2.1 will provide an overview of current ICT-approaches to smart grids management and the integration of microgrids in the main electricity grid, in research and industrial practice. This will also identify current major problems and gaps between what is required and what is feasible from a practical and theoretical perspective. Based on the urgency of the requirements and the potential of the solutions these requirements will be prioritised. Such approaches may range from traditional centralised SCADA-systems which have been extended, towards completely decentralised, autonomous control agents. It will consider different technologies (wired/wireless, open/closed, etc.). Specific emphasis will be put on the potential and on the pitfalls of smart metering and monitoring for power quality, quality of services and efficiency (ref. DG Comm: IEEE 1547.3, IEC 61850(-7-420)).
THE DELIVERABLE D2-2 OF TASK 2.1 IS NOW AVAILABLE!
Task 2.2: Identify tech and non-tech barriers; Identify solutions to barriers.
Task 2.2 will identify the technical and other (economical, ecological, juridical etc.) barriers concerning practical implementation will be identified, together with trends and possible solutions. Dependability of the smart grids and their dependence on the ICT infrastructure will be explored, investigating the (electrical) security of the smart grids as well as the (information) security of the deployed ICT architectures.
THE DELIVERABLE D2-3 OF TASK 2.2 IS NOW AVAILABLE!
Task 2.3: Identify and categorise policy actions; rank ICT vs. solutions and policy.
Task 2.3 will identify the necessary policy actions and elaborate them according to the identified barriers and possible solutions, including also the priorities of the ICT requirements for management of smart grids with microgrids integration.
Task 2.4: Share and prioritise policy actions and produce recommendations.
Task 2.4 will prioritise and check policy actions concerning ICT for management of smart grids with all involved stakeholders for validity. Afterwards, the policy actions will be turned into recommendations for follow up actions.
